Will i be safe until i get in to see the dentist?

m pretty sure i have a tooth abscess my tooth doesnt hurt but my gums underneath the tooth in the back of my mouth are swollen, sore, hurts when i put pressure on them not unbearable but still hurts and there are two small white sores where it hurts and it not noticeable but it feels like that side of my face is very slightly swollen and i feel ill so i went ot my doctor cause i dont have dental insurance and i cant get it for another week and my doctor gave me penicillin if i take that will it be safe to wait a week to see a dentist going to the ER isnt an option
