Why do I feel as though Ill eventually turn to heroine?

Just as people feel as though they'll die young, I cant shake the thought that I'll fail as a poet and turn to drugs.. Sort of like Edgar Allan Poe but not alcohol. I feel so self-destructive.. Would that be a self-image problem?
