Is the Atom Smasher 2012 going to end the World?

Apparently they have set this "Atom Smasher" experiment for 12-21-2012. From what I hear, they are going to smash two atoms together to try and create a small black hole. Is it just coincidence that this experiment is taking place on the legendary date? Do you think we are all going to perish in this experiment? Do you think the scientists have overstepped and over reached and underestimated what they are doing? Do they even have the right to put all of our lives in their hands for this experiment? I don't know much about what they are going to do, which is why i am asking on here.... how are they planning on containing a problem if one occurs? Personally, I am a little afraid of what is going to happen... HELP
