The use of "and" at the beginning of a sentence is good grammar now?

I still wouldn't use it. Try other words that are less grammatically dubious: In addition, Also, etc. There are lots of ways to avoid starting with "and." I don't think it sounds right. There's a reason it was never grammatically correct before.
